25 Days of Kindness Advent Calendar
It’s December 1st! And if you haven’t been counting down to Christmas yet, today is a great day to start! We’ve always had some kind of advent calendar to count down the days, but this year I’ve made a little different kind. I’m calling it our 25 Days of Kindness Advent Calendar. It’s one of the ways I’m trying to shift the focus this Christmas season off of only material things to the important things like kindness, relationships, and a Christ-like spirit.
I made the countdown similar to any other advent calendar, starting with an old shutter I had.
I also used some mini black paper bags, some mini clothes pins, and some mini wired green garland. (You can find these items at craft stores or online with the supply list at the bottom of this post.)
I simply wrapped the shutter with the mini garland…
Then, using a white pencil, I wrote numbers on the bags.
And then I wrote out some acts of kindness to go into the bags, one for each day leading up to Christmas. Each day, the kids will take turns choosing a bag, not knowing what’s inside. Some of the acts are toward the recipient, and some are for the recipient to do for others. Either way, it’s a win for building relationships and helping us to think of the truly meaningful gifts of Christmas!
You can use this idea in so many ways– either hanging envelopes on a frame or board like I did, or even putting them in a jar or on a memo board!
I ended up adding a little dear head hook to the top of ours for an extra touch of Christmas! I’d love to see what some of you come up with!
Here’s a short supply list for some items you may want for this project…
