Lola’s Room Makeover: the One Room Challenge Reveal!
In case you haven’t noticed this about me, decorating for people is one of my love languages. (Hence the recent big 10th birthday party and other projects and rooms I’ve done for my family). Some of you totally get it because you love your people with your creativity as well. And my latest makeover in Lola’s room has been a labor of love!
Lola has a spunky personality, and this process started out with her suggesting themes from “gymnastics” to “Rome”, complete with her visions of spaghetti & meatballs art (yes, this little Southern girl loves Rome!).
So, we compromised a little and settled on something more classic and graceful with some feminine European charm…
Remember the before??
I had the vision in my mind, and seeing it come to life has been soo fun. The biggest challenge of the room was the mural, of course. I never would have tried it if Dave hadn’t insisted that I could do it. I had never done one before, but I challenged myself and had a blast with it! Dave and a friend of ours painted the whole room first with my favorite pale gray (Sherwin Williams’ Silver Strand). And I chose 4 basic colors with which to do the mural: SW Rain, SW Meditative, SW Destiny, and SW Ripe Olive (plus I used some SW Extra White for mixing in here and there).
Then, I got busy with some brushes, painting and blending and blending and painting…
It took me around 6 or 7 hours to do the whole wall, and in the end, I think I got close to the look of the classic European wall covering I was going for…
My inspiration was the Le Coucou restaurant, which I would love to see in person the next time I go to New York! I’ve stared at these pics for weeks!
The chandelier turned out to be just right as well! (For affiliate link source, click here.)
The desk and dresser were the first two pieces I did for this room with DIY chalk paint, and you can find the details on those in this post.
The fur chair makeover details are here, and the magnetic memo board details will be coming soon!
For those of you who saw my Instagram post about Simone Biles, we found a great place for her right here! (And there’s the gymnastics touch Lola wanted!)
On the shelves, Lola has space for some of her favorite little treasures…
One of the pieces we definitely wanted to keep was the French bench I made from a thrift store coffee table years ago. It has remained one of the most popular makeovers on the blog for years, and I still love it, too!

The curtains are a silver velvet pair I fell in love with from HomeGoods, and the rod was this one from Target which I sprayed my favorite gold spray paint.
And as for the nod to Rome, I managed to slip that in, too, over the dresser.
I even added the spaghetti art! Just makes me smile every time I look at it!
Remember the faux marble bedside table I posted about here? I love how it works in the room.

And this little lamp was a great find from Marshall’s…
The white duvet set was just what I was looking for at a great price here.
The sheet set was also from Marshall’s, the faux fur pillows were from Hobby Lobby, and the lavender velvet pillow and the pom pom throw were from HomeGoods.
And for an unexpected surprise, we turned the dormer window area into a reading nook! Lola was thrilled when she saw it, and said it was “just like Lauren’s!” (See Lauren’s reading nook here.)
Remember it before?
Well, I painted a little “sky” on the ceiling of this space, too…
And for something extra-special, I strung tiny string lights up there so it would look like twinkling stars at night! We bought this set and they are awesome because they plug in, plus they have a remote with settings for different modes and intensity. Lola loooves this feature!
So dreamy at night!
But I think the most amazing part of this is that I searched all over for just the perfect size seat for this space, when it finally dawned on me that I already had the perfect piece! Does anyone here remember this “famous” tufted ottoman? It was another of my earliest projects I made from a thrift store coffee table. I wrote all about the how-to way back here. It’s been in our playroom since we replaced it with another coffee table a few years ago, and I literally can’t believe how perfectly it fits this space. It was born to be here. Can you even believe how God works these things out??
The pillows for the nook came from HomeGoods as well, except for the round one which I’ve had for years. I ordered the sheer curtains from here and hung them on a basic tension rod.
I think my favorite view of the room might be from inside the nook…
So, yes, it was a true challenge to join the One Room Challenge along with so many other bloggers! And it took some work to get this room totally transformed…
But this girl is worth it, just like all my other not-so-little kids! I love doing these projects for them!
Thanks for stopping by to see this reveal and for following along the journey. I hope you like it!
It’s been a pleasure to join the One Room Challenge, and I’ll be linking this room up here along with several other bloggers. Go check them out!

This is a room fit for a little princess. You did an amazing job, simply incredible. The painting on the wall is what initially brought me here but the room is so much more than that.

OMG love the mural and everything else done. I can’t help but think, in time perhaps, move the bed to another wall so the mural could truly be enjoyed from the bed – whether reading in bed or waking up in the morn and smiling looking at it knowing how much her mama loves her to do this for her….. GREAT JOB!!
