Birthday Girls
Today was our annual birthday celebration for my mom, whose birthday was Monday, and Abby, whose birthday is tomorrow. We gave my mom her gift. You didn’t really think I would give her the deer picture, did you? Here’s the reveal I promised. (If you missed the before, just scroll down a couple posts.) 
My mom had been hinting that she’d like a jewelry organizer since I made mine back in June & posted about it here. She liked it. Then she called me after we left to say she thinks I’m a genius for coming up with the idea. That’s what moms are for. So, now we’re getting ready for Abby’s big day tomorrow. I can hardly believe she’ll be 12. Today we looked at baby pics and reminisced about when she was born and weighed only 5 pounds. And Grammy reminded her that she was the first to discover that she had red hair. (No, we’ve still never really found out where it came from.)
I’ve been working for weeks on her gift, which is a mini makeover for her room. She knows I’m doing it, but doesn’t know what it’s going to look like. The sisters are bunking together tonight, then Dave & I are going to get busy putting her room together so it’ll be ready for the big reveal in the morning. I’ll share it all with you later. I’m proud of it, but not nearly as proud as I am of Abby, who is a great girl & beautiful in so many ways. When I was working in her room this week, I found this little poem posted on her bulletin board that I wrote for her on her 9th birthday. It still applies today. In fact, it applies to all 3 of my girls. For the rest of their lives. In fact, it applies to me, too. I thought I’d share it with you all…
It’s so important to wash your faceAnd wear frilly dresses trimmed in lace.You should brush your teeth 3 times a dayto keep the cavities away.Wash your hair so it will shine!And bow or curtsy from time to time.Make sure your nails are trimmed & clean.Add some polish to make them gleam!All of these things a girl must do to be thought prim & proper, too.But, while the clothes may help you play the part,What matters most is in your heart.Are you kind to others? Do you scream & yell?If someone wrongs you do you run to tell?You must be a friend who’s sweet & true.And love the Lord, for He loves you.Remember, a mirror will not get you far.Real beauty is measured by how sweet you are!

What a beautiful poem, Julie! Happy Birthday to these important ladies in your life. Yes, that picture looks much better as a jewelry organizer! : ) My new granddaughter was born at 5 pounds, 3 ounces at the end of July, but I can see she is filling out more as the weeks go on.
