Guest Room Refresh!
Over the past several years in this house, our guest room has hosted countless family, friends, and even Dave and I for a few months when my parents moved in with us for awhile when my dad was sick. It is a great space with several key pieces that have plenty of history of their own! So when I decided to give it a refresh a couple of weeks ago, I started reminiscing about several of these pieces and how they came to be here! I had no plans to change most of them as they are awesome timeless elements that just belong in this space. But, I can’t wait for you to see how just a few updates can totally change the feel of a room like this!
Remember this before look when I first decorated it??
Here is the present look…

So many of the same basic pieces, yet a totally different feel. Before I show you all the new details, here is a little trip down memory lane to click back and see how so many of these pieces came about…
First, the bed– one of my first thrifted projects. And it was only $10! Click HERE to read all about that makeover story.
Next was that desk! I have loved it since I first found it. And I can hardly believe it was only $20! Click HERE for see it before and watch the transformation.
The shutters were a yard sale find, the suitcase for a table was from an antique store for only $5, and the curtains were some I made from drop cloths. You can read more about those projects HERE.
One of the things I updated for this room was the bench which I had originally made from a coffee table. I shared all about that HERE. The new look is covered in a pink velvet which I immediately fell in love with when I recently found it at Hobbly Lobby!
Another change I made was the art above the bed! I took down the window frame and replaced it with some new cloud art! I took a piece of abstract art I had painted a while back for my bathroom. Remember that piece HERE?
I transformed this look into a calm and serene cloud study which is one of my new favorite things! I shared the process on a recent Instagram reel if you want to see more!
Other changes I made in the guest room were to update the sheets to a blue floral set I found at Marshall’s. Find a similar set via my affiliate link HERE.
I kept the white duvet set that I’ve had for years now because a white set is just simply timeless. The white pillows were from Marshalls and I found a similar look via my affiliate link HERE.
The blue gingham bolster pillow is brand new and a great deal via my affiliate link HERE. Another new element are the windowpane pattern curtains. Very nice price and a gorgeous update, in my opinion! Shop them HERE.
I have definitely had fun updating this room and I think I might just escape here myself sometime for some peace and quiet and inspiration!
I hope you like it too! Let me know what you think!
