It’s been a full and fun summer, spent doing lots of wild and crazy things such as berry-picking, cobbler-baking, and all manner of memory-making. One day recently, the girls and I set out for a local berry patch and came home with a bucket full of juicy sweetness.
Within minutes, Abby was texting my mom for her special cobbler recipe. It was such an easy and delicious recipe, I asked my mom where she got it and she said she got it years ago from my Aunt Kandi (who also happens to be one of my favorite blog readers), and when I asked her where sheoriginally got the recipe, she said she got it many years ago from my dad’s aunt, whom we all affectionately called Aunt Kacky. (That’s her in the pic below with my mom and me circa 1978 or so.) So, basically this recipe is tried and true, spanning at least 4 generations, so it’s a keeper.
One of the best things about it is that it’s made from basic ingredients that you probably always have on hand, so you can make it anytime the craving strikes. AND, it can be customized with almost any kind of fruit! So, choose your favorite and give this a try.
1 stick of butter
2 to 3 cups of your favorite berries or chopped fruit
1 cup self-rising flour
1 cup sugar
1 cup milk
Start by preheating the oven to 350º. Then melt the stick of butter in a 9×13 baking dish.
Next, mix together the flour, sugar, and milk and pour it over the butter, but do not mix it in the dish!
Lastly, add the berries or fruit, but, again, do not mix them in.
Then, just bake for 35 to 40 minutes or until golden brown. Serve it while warm with a scoop of ice cream for a dreamy treat.
