We have woodpeckers, too. One of them has been known to peck our gutters…aluminum gutters…it sounds like a machine gun.

We love birds and would love to have bird feeders around — we did a project that just included a liter bottle, a screw hook and large plastic spoons to make a bird feeder (http://familyfun.go.com/crafts/backyard-bird-feeder-672532/ – we had to hot glue the spoons in). Instead of attracting birds in northwestern PA, it attracted racoons and a BEAR!! Not THAT into birds. Oh well.

    Love visiting your blog!

You might try reading David Dodge's book, "The Crazy Glass Pecker" written in 1949, but as funny today as it was then. (you can still get it on Amazon, etc.) It is a fall-on-the-floor-laughing kind of book.

We love watching the birds too. We have herons that come in the Spring (because we are on the water) and cranes…and several small birds. We also have woodpeckers that LIVE in our tree and can be heard pecking away day after day…but so far they haven't bothered our decking. The squirrels are the biggest hassel and we have managed to feed them separately…crazy things! Good luck with your woodpecker. I am going to check out that book that Priscilla mentioned. Hugs- Diana

What a great story. I have a lot of birds in my yard that bath in our fountains and thought about getting a book to find out the species. Loved how you shared your failed bird feeder, classic. Don't have any input on the woodpecker, maybe put some liquid pepper on the wood? Funny wood, pepper, woodpecker (woodpepper lol)
