Quatrefoil Mirror
I got a new mirror, y’all.
I found this great mirror in one of my favorite thrift stores a couple of weeks ago and it immediately reminded me of the some of the ones I love from Ballard Designs. It was a great size and shape and I loved the quatrefoil design as well.
So, I brought it home and gave it a couple coats of the same Sherwin Williams’ black enamel that I used for this andthis. But I wanted to give the edges a little more definition, so I distressed it all around with a little sandpaper. The problem was, I got a little crazy with the sandpaper in a few spots and it dulled the paint in some places. So I used this stuff… (Find a great deal on it here!)
And it’s now on my list of some of my favorite furniture finishing products. It’s great! And so easy to use. (Those of you who do a lot of furniture are probably thinking “Where has she been?”) But, this was the first time I’ve tried it, and if you’re with me and never used it, all you have to do is take a clean cloth and wipe it on, then wait 10 or 15 minutes until it’s dry, then buff it off. And I’ll warn you, you won’t be able to use this stuff without thinking of the Karate Kid movie. In my mind I just kept hearing “Wax on, wax off.”
But it’s great. It hardens the finish of whatever you use it on and gives it a nice sheen as well. Don’t tell my son or he’ll try to use it on his hair.
Now my mirror’s hanging at the end of my front hall and I think I’m gonna like it there.
Just between us, I found out after we hung it that it’s warped just a little in the middle and has a kinda “fun house” effect. See how the doorway looks warped in the picture?
But, the good part about this is that if you stand just right, it makes you look a little thinner. I may just start using this one all the time. Now, go visit these link parties I’m joining up with while I go get some ice cream…

Love it! Oh boy, my kids would be all over that fun house effect đŸ™‚ The paint job looks great. Call me crazy, but I've used finishing paste a number of times, just never over paint~ why didn't I think of that?!

Great mirror and I love the location. Just right for that spot. Good advice about the wax, I never used it like that — will now.

Both your mirror and your home look lovely!
I'm not sure I have the whatever-is-required to do that much work, but I do love the distressed look when I can find it already done. I have coffee and sofa tables like that.
I just wrote a blog post detailing some of my new stuff, too! It's cool that several of us are posting about that these past few days.

Great job on the mirror. I also love your header picture. Last year one of my two year old twins had a thing with finding sharpies and putting lines with curly Q's on several of my walls the week before we sold our home. There was a lot of last minute, late night, priming and painting that week. It's a good thing she's so cute.

Pretty mirror! The fun house effects just make things more interesting.
I had a skinny mirror once. I'm still mourning its loss.
