An Airbnb Adventure
This whole summer I’ve been meaning to make an announcement here on the blog about a big little adventure we started a couple of months ago. I have talked about it already on Insta, but I wanted to make the announcement to my faithful blog readers because I am definitely wanting you to be a part of this, just like you’ve been with me for so many years of my home journey now!
Back in May, an opportunity came available that Dave and I decided to go for and that was the chance to purchase an Airbnb beach condo in one of our favorite areas, Pensacola, Florida. And since we are both turning 50 this year, we thought it would be a perfect birthday gift to each other. The great part is, the condo came fully furnished with plenty of dates already booked for rentals! But there is also plenty of opportunity for improvements in giving it our personal style, so of course I have been busy at work getting things planned for some changes!

One funny story I shared back in May was when we were able to see the condo for the first time in person after closing. (We had done video walkthroughs and lots of research from long distance). Since the condo was booked with a renter for the week we were able to stop in, we only had about 15 minutes to tour it. I had expected the renters to step out for a few minutes while the owners came in, but, no— they wanted to stay. And not only that, one of them was loudly snoring on the sofa the entire time, so needless to say, I was not quite able to focus on plans and measurements like I’d hoped! But since then, I’ve sent family members down to give me some more detailed info and changes are in the works. And we will always have quite the memory to laugh about from the first time we visited.

We do have a property manager who handles all the on-site overseeing of the property as well as all the bookings so we have not had much to do in the way of landlord duties, which is nice!
I am so looking forward to getting down to the beach next month and getting a good bit of the changes done that we are envisioning. I’ve been painting, gathering, shopping and styling from home and the dining room is full of things needing to go down. Very soon I’ll be sharing some inspiration boards and more info on the actual property so stay tuned!
Meanwhile, I’d love to hear your special tips for Airbnb owners or things you’ve loved in your own stays in different places!
