Some More Big News I Haven’t Told You About Yet
Somewhere in the few weeks leading up to Christmas, while browsing Pinterest like I so often do, I pinned a couple of pics of some adorable little puppies, showed them to my kids, and suddenly found myself with a full-on case of puppy fever.
When my 4 kids, who have begged, pleaded, and bargained for a dog for their entire existence, sensed my moment of weakness, they immediately initiated Operation Beg Dad Like Never Before, Before Mom Changes Her Mind.
And with just a little batting of my lashes, and a little “Are you sure you know what you’re getting into?,” Dave caved.
But one of the things I love about Dave is that if he’s in, he’s in. Once the decision was made, he got down to business, researching different breeds, calling around to find the right breeder, and gathering details.
Then, two days after Christmas, he loaded us up in the truck and drove us to the beautiful farm of an amazing woman who makes people’s doggy dreams come true.
About an hour before we arrived, these 4 little cuties were born, and we picked out our newest family member.
This is our little Yorkie Poo. And after much debate and lots of suggestions (most of which I ruled out immediately), we have decided to name him Scout.
We visited him at 2 weeks…
And now at 5 weeks…
And in just a few more weeks, there will actually be a dog living in our house. Pretty much everyone that knows us, including my kids, thought they’d never see the day. But, as my son said, “God is still in the miracle business.”
With all the changes going on in our lives right now, I have questioned whether this is a good idea or not, but something tells me this may be just what we all need.
We’re already crazy about him, and I think he’s going to fit this family perfectly.
(Yes, he fell asleep on Lola’s lap. It can’t even!)
So, now we have big decisions to make, like what color collar to buy him and where to find a super-cute doggy bed. If you have advice for me, I’m ready for it. But, encouragement only, please. This decision is made and we’re not turning back. Now, help!

We bought an Australian Shepherd puppy a year into our marriage and it's the best thing we ever did! He is our "baby" and has brought so much joy into our lives! My dog has the same coloring as yours and what's nice about that is you can buy whatever color collar you'd like ๐ During the puppy stage keep all things you don't want chewed up off the floor. Their teeth are sharp! Aw I'm so excited for you – you'll LOVE having him in your family!

Crate train, crate train, crate train! It will be a life saver. Buy a good book about puppies (if you don't have experience caring for one) because it's overwhelming! Definitely sign up for a puppy class as soon as Scout is old enough to curb any bad behaviors he might want to have. We made the mistake of not immediately getting our mini-daschund into training, and she's a repeat bark offender and is not really socialized. So socialize the pup as soon as you can. It will benefit all of you. Have fun snuggling, loving and adoring that cute little guy. A dog will totally change your life. As much as my dog drives.me.crazy I could not imagine life without her! Good luck!

We are definitely planning to crate train ๐ I will have to look into the classes, though! The breeder has been so helpful to us so far, so I'll have her recommend! Thanks!

I don't think there is ever a "right time" for anything, but I think that if you wanted it in your heart then God knows something you don't. At least that's what I would like to believe. We got our daughter a dog three, almost four years ago, and that dog has seen so much…she's been hugged and sobbed on, she's been a listening ear when I just want to ramble and she's been there to offer cuddles through my current pregnancy where I've felt so alone with my husband being away from home. I feel like this pup (who is adorable by the way) will be a great addition for y'all!

I totally agree that God's timing is always perfect, and so we are going ahead with this, trusting Him, like we always try to do. Thank you!

Sorry to be negative nancy, but I wish you had adopted from a shelter. There are thousands of puppies just as cute as that which are euthanized each year. We just adopted a wonderful Border Collie from our SPCA. For $150, we got Hazel Brown who is house trained, leash trained, spayed, microchip, and has all of her shots. Because our SPCA does not have a kennel, all dogs are fostered in homes. Our puppy gets along with our cat, senior dog and grandchildren. That being said, Scout is really cute.

Oh my goodness he is adorable!!
Since you already use Pinterest, check out the many doggy bed DIYs there!! There are some super cute beds that are not hard to make!
My advice- enjoy the puppy days. Like kids, they grow up so fast! Our family dog, a 100+ Alaskan Malamute, turns 8 in a few days!

We brought home our first puppy, a yorkie-Maltese, weeks before my husband's father passed without any warning. Our last encounter with my father-in-law was introducing him to our "Boochi", which was a pet name for my husband when he was a tiny tyke. Papa laughed his special laugh, in pure delight over this little fluff ball, the joy so evident on his face. That precious memory along with the warm puppy cuddles sustained us through so much sorrow in the coming months. Our Boochi was a therapy dog from the moment we brought him home. That was five years ago and we hope for many more! Ross has very affordable beds and toys. We feed our dogs Weebits from Solid Gold brand. The website earthclinic.com has loads of folk remedies for k9s and their owners. It's been so helpful. Feed mills generally have better prices on dog food, flea meds, and even vaccinations. Enjoy your new little blessing!!
