$20 Thrift Store Chair Makeover
This is the story of my latest favorite piece of furniture and how it came to live in my house for the beautiful price of $20.
It started when I spotted this beauty for only $12 at one of my local thrift stores. The tag said “as is”, and it took me a few minutes to notice there was a little damage to the caning on one side, which was no big deal to me with so much else to love about it. So, I brought it home to start the search for fabric.
And amidst all that craziness, you guessed it: teal velvet (or something velvet-esque!). Those of you who follow me on Facebook may remember that day. $5.99 for more than enough to do my chair!
So, since I had a God-given mission, I got to work. I don’t do a lot of upholstery, so I just kinda followed my gut and prayed for the best. I was able to keep the original foam and batting, so after ripping off the old fabric, I just started on the new.
I lined up the front first, and stapled it across.
Then, I moved on to the sides and back.
Theback was the trickiest part since I had to cut around the wood, but it turned out ok.
A couple yards of trim in just the right shade was a great deal at only $2!
I just glued it on to cover the staples, cleaned up the chair with a little furniture polish and that was it!
The grand total was right at $20, and I’m loving it.
I’m still looking for just the right side table, but I brought in my bar cart from the family room and tried it out to see how it would look for now. I’m thinking I kinda like it there.
Yep, I’m loving it in there. And every time I look at it, I can’t help but think of Psalm 37:4: “Delight thyself also in the Lord: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.”
What is He doing in your life today?

I love it. Today is garage sale day in my neighborhood and on the way back from taking my son to the bus stop someone was starting to set up. They put out 4 old style wooden school chairs. Everything in me is screaming to buy them. I'm wondering if I can get away with it since we are moving in 13 days. Maybe my husband just won't notice a few extra chairs!

Love it! Just the inspiration I need to get started on two similar cane back chairs here just waiting for a little makeover of their own!

It looks great! I redid a chair a few years ago and still love it. The fortune cookie is too much!
