Mini Edible Party Hats and Free 7th Birthday Printables!

If you’re looking for a birthday treat or party favor that’s just a little out of the ordinary, how about a mini party hat that the guests can eat? Our little Lola recently turned 7, and I came up with this idea for her birthday treat to share with her friends at school. They were a hit with them, and I thought they were pretty cute, too, so I’m sharing them with you.

Here’s what to do: Just start with a basic sugar cone and fill it with some candy. I filled these with M&M’s and marshmallows.

Next, you’ll need cellophane treat bags and some twist ties. Holding the cone upright, cover it with a bag and close it up with a tie.

Then, just fold under the corners of the bag and tape them with a piece of clear tape.

Next, add an elastic string for the chinstrap. I found this thin elastic thread at Wal-Mart for only 97¢ for 30 yards,and it worked perfectly.

Just measure it out to the size you need (16″ was a good length for 7-year-olds), and then tape each end onto the cone. Be sure to press the tape on very well so the elastic doesn’t slip out too easily.

Then, adhere the printables to the “hat” with some glue or tape, and they’re done!

Lola and her friends had fun wearing them awhile before opening them up and gobbling them down. And they looked pretty cute in them, too!

These would also make cute elf hats for a Christmasparty! You may see that little project show up herebefore long.

    Hi Julie, I met you at the ORBC Ladies Retreat and I've been enjoying your blog since! These are adorable and I'm wondering if it's possible to make them into Pilgrim Hats somehow; maybe with a regular flat-bottomed cone…hmmm…
