Fall Hoop Wreath How-To and Fall Styling in the Breakfast Room

Fall decorating has commenced around our house, which involves a little sprucing up, a bit of switching around, and a lot of little pumpkins!  I don’t always start from scratch to decorate for the seasons…sometimes I build upon what I already have.  And that’s what I did with my floral hoop wreath I have hanging in the window.

Remember this?  My hoop wreath has been a very popular project ever since I first posted the how-to here back in January.  I have had it hanging in the same place since then with my little “happy” sign in it all through the spring and summer.

But, just to change things up for fall, I decided to add a little something different!  So I took down the “happy” and switched it out with this “gather” I recently found at Hobby Lobby.  If you don’t have a Hobby Lobby near you, I found the exact same one online here!  Or, if you’d like a custom size, word, or name, I’ve found a great source for that here.

I just simply tied the word onto the wreath with a little twine.

A little masking tape on top of the hoop helps to keep it from sliding down the sides…

To give the greenery more of a fall feel, I added a few sprigs of these fall prickly pom poms from Hobby Lobby, which I cut to separate.

It literally just took about one minute to tuck a few sprigs in, and it was done!

Another change I made for fall was to get a new table runner.  And since I couldn’t find one I loved after checking around, I decided to go with one of my favorite tricks– a no-sew fabric runner!  I loved this gray and white buffalo check duck cloth fabric (also spotted at Hobby Lobby), so I bought a length of it to fit my table.

My trick is to leave the fabric folded as it comes on the bolt, then just fold and press the selvage edges to a crisp edge.  I don’t even bother sewing it because it lies flat beautifully just like that.  Plus, the fabric always needs to be ironed again after washing, so I’ll just press it again!

I don’t even sew the ends unless they are fraying. This is so quick and easy.  Plus, you can open up the fabric for a wider runner or table covering as well!

I also brought in a pair of cute ticking stripe pillows to go along with the farmhouse look for fall.  And it proves once again how versatile our settee has been!  It goes with everything!  The settee is still available and you can find it here.

For the cafe shelves, I styled them up for fall using mostly things from around the house, with a few new items added in.

Instead of chalking out a message this time, I lettered out this little quote on craft paper and clipped it onto my chalkboard with a little clip I found at Magnolia on my recent trip there.  The two blue bottles were finds from Marshall’s with stems from Hobby Lobby!

A few more books, candles, pumpkins and a wreath were just gathered from around the house!
