Easy Baby Name Sweater How-to (Pattern Method!)
I have loved seeing how many of you have enjoyed the easy how-to for the baby name sweaters I shared a couple of years ago. (If you missed that post it’s HERE). I’ve made several versions of them now but I recently decided to share a method that is for those of you who love to use a pattern. And this one might even be easier than the first!

Here’s what you’ll need:
A sweater or knitted piece which you want to personalize with a name…
I used these overalls this time and I love them!

You’ll find some other great sweater options at great prices HERE. and HERE in sooo many sizes and colors.
You’ll also need a large eye embroidery needle linked HERE
Fine gauge yarn like these HERE.
Freezer paper linked HERE.
Start by making your pattern with the freezer paper. All you need to do is simply write the name with a pen or pencil or print it out and trace it onto the freezer paper. Make sure you are writing on the matte paper side.

Next, place the pattern onto the sweater where you want it and iron over it using a dry hot iron to adhere it to the sweater. This works like a charm and will not damage your sweater!

To begin stitching, thread the yarn onto the needle and knot the end as you would for embroidery thread. Coming up from underneath, pull the yarn up at the starting point.

Next, go right back in the same hole, creating a small loop. Do not pull the yarn all the way back through.

Leave the small loop while you begin the next stitch the same way, but this time, pull the yarn through the first loop as you come up.

This will create your first link in the chain!

Now you will repeat the process again by going back in the same hole and creating the next loop.

Keep repeating the process, following the pattern until you have completed the name! To finish it off, simply pull the thread all the way through over your last loop and tie it off in the back. You can dot i’s by making a single stitch.

When the stitches are finished, simply peel off the freezer paper pattern to reveal your beautiful name!

I can’t wait to see these on our little Jude! Can’t believe he’s almost one year old!

I hope you have fun with this like I do! I’d love to see your projects, as always. Tag me on Instagram and I’d love to share!
