Brittany’s {Fabulous} Rancher Reno-The Big Reveal!
Yes, it’s been a little while since I first gave you the “Before” of Brittany’s Rancher Reno, and some of you have been wondering if I was ever going to show the final result! Well here it is and, let me tell you, it’s so worth the wait! If you click here, you’ll get the scoop on David and Brittany and her cute 60’s rancher, but just to re-cap…
This is how Brittany’s kitchen looked before…
And this is it after my brother went to work on it! {Swoon!}
With everything that has been going on in my family’s lives over the past few months, this project did take longer than expected, but I have to say, it looks amazing! David did most of the work himself, with the help of Brittany and a few friends and family. From taking out a wall, to installing all hardwood floors, to constructing a few pieces from scratch–it made a huge difference!
I wish I could take credit for this reno, but my part was strictly consulting, and then, of course bragging blogging about the results! I love it all, but I think the kitchen is my favorite, with the cabinet makeover and awesome new countertops and backsplash.
They transformed the plain oak cabinets into these beauties by painting Sherwin William’s Passive on top, and SW Gray Matters on the bottom. The walls are all SW Nebulous White, which is one of my personal faves since I have it in my own Master bedroom.
They went with open shelving in one section, for a little more modern feel, as well.
The counter tops are a solid surface in River White– a fabulous alternative to the much more expensive Carrara marble.
The backsplash is the smaller version of traditional subway tile from Home Depot, with Delorean Gray grout. This was one of the few jobs they hired out to friends, due to lack of time, and they did a wonderful job.
And since they removed the “L” section of the cabinets, it opened the kitchen area up to the living room and provided space for an island. David made this one from some reclaimed barn wood on the property and the plans from this handy blog. Hedidn’t even stain the top so it would retain it’s natural color –just sanded it lightly and applied a few coats ofpolyurethane. He painted the base in another of my favorites, Sherwin William’s Rainwashed. With a little distressing, it adds even more character and functionality to the kitchen! (Eek! I love it!)
And as if that weren’t enough, David out-did himself again when he made over this oak dining set that had belonged to Brittany’s parents.
Brittany says this is her favorite part of the whole renovation. I’ll be giving more details about how he did this table and chairs next week, so stay tuned for that, but for now, let’s just take in the fabulousness!
And with a sisal rug over the gorgeous new floors, it’s a very welcoming dining room, for sure.
And speaking of the floors, they’re pre-engineered hardwood from Mullican Flooring’s Hillshire Collection in Hickory Winchester. Click here for specs and details.
There’s more great change in the living room, starting with the fireplace, which they painted in SW Passive. (You may remember this is the same color I used in the School Music Room Makeover).
It looks awesome on the fireplace, especially with the State of Tennessee art, which David made from reclaimed pallet wood.
Another fantastic piece in this room David made is the scripture art, which actually hides the TV! He constructed this from basic 1×6’s and 2×4’s. The words were printed using a specialty graphics printer at our company, but the same result can be achieved in other ways, such as this one and others you can find on Pinterest.
I love it!
Brittany’s sofa is this one from World Market, with the matching chair and pillows. The rug is from Tuesday Morning. The side table is another example of David’s handiwork. Made from these plans, it only took him 45 minutes from start to finish!
Girls, what about a guy that’s smart, funny, handsome, and will totallyrenovate your house for you, too?! Brittany ispretty crazy about him, and I am, too.
And because I am so proud of my brother, I have to add this part as well… he learned almost everything he knows about renovating and handiwork from our dad, who was always very interested in every project any of us have worked on. Dad was following this renovation very closely in the last weeks of his life, and I am so glad that he was able to go to Brittany’s house and see all the work they did. In fact, that was the last time he wasable to get out of the housebefore he died. He reallyenjoyed seeing this, and was very proud of David’s work. And I’m sure he’s still smiling as we talk about it now.
Be sure to check in next week for details on thediningtable, and there may be more projects at Brittany’s house to share in the future!
What do you think?

That is great! I love it all. We are currently remodeling our guest house for itinerating missionaries and I am really interested in how he did the table. I would like to do something similar to a table we currently have in there. And, I love the hidden tv…..would love to that in my house. We only watch the tv with Netflix or videos and since it's not a daily part of our lives, it would be nice for it to be hidden. Thanks for sharing this remodel. You all seem to have a great family.

I LOVE IT! David is so creative and talented. I think my favorite piece was the TV/scripture. I am glad your dad got to see it. The kitchen is beautiful! It's amazing what paint can do. I also loved the TN pallet art. Great makeover!

Oh my goodness, what a transformation! When you had showed some snapshots of the house a while back, I was hoping they would take that big ol' divider wall out, and boy did they ever – looks soo cozy. You brother should be going into the 'cute cover up tv wall hanging' business!!! how creative! What about all the cords for the tv, etc….interested in the creative way that will all work. My hubby will get home-sick if I show him the TN sign!

Your brother is definitely a keeper! I can't decide which I like more…the island, the table and chairs, the tv cover artwork, or the Tennessee artwork! It's all so gorgeous and I can't wait to see any more projects y'all accomplish 🙂

B-E-A-utiful!!! Really, everything is tastefully balanced and beautiful decorated!!! Love your choice of colors and eclectic woodwork.
One thing has me baffled though…. I love the way you covered the TV, but were are the wires?

They’re in the wall! It’s beyond my skill level, but an electrician can do this for you!
