Need Design Advice? I’m Here to Help
Happy Monday, friends! It’s that time of the week again when I’m trying to get this house back to normal after a whirlwind weekend and finish some projects I’m in the middle of, but I had to take a few minutes to share with you a little blast from the past.From time to time, I get emails from readers inquiring about design services & advice on decorating dilemmas in their own homes. And while I don’t like to brag, I do have extensive design experience starting way back somewhere around 1988, not in a top design school like some may expect, but I got my start with Crayola. Yes, Crayola, and specifically with my totally chic Crayola Designer Kit for Interiors.
Please don’t be jealous. I realize not everyone has the knack for creating fabulous contemporary room designs with only a pencil and plastic drafting board.
And although I can’t imagine how I somehow misplaced most of my renderings through the years, I did manage to preserve one of my favorites, which I call, Contempo Bath:
Once again, I don’t show you this to brag. I simply want to share a bit of my portfolio. I would like to point out though, that the art above the toilet does look surprisingly like Missoni, does it not? (Just a small example of my tendency to be slightly ahead of my time.)

I do regret not having more to show you. However, since I still have my handy kit & my planning book, I could easily sketch out a plan for a Trendsetter’s Bedroom or an Antique Bath. I’d like to give a special thanks to my parents for giving me my Crayola Design Kit so many years ago & helping me to get a great start as a cutting edge designer. And apparently the girl on this kit influenced my personal style as well because I wore that pink blouse to my friend’s 40th birthday party last year. Remember that?
Anyway– I just wanted to share a little of my design experience with you. I hope it inspired those of you searching for ideas for Contempo Baths. Incidentally, I have done design plans with an actual computer as well. Here’s an example of that…

I didn't receive formal training with Crayola as you have. Can you share which software you use for your design boards?

Thanks, as always, for your kindness! I use Adobe InDesign for the design boards–just slightly more technical than the Crayola 🙂
