The Sunny Side of Neutral
Day Three of Paint Color Week & today I’m sharing my favorite neutral. This color was my hardest paint color decision that I made when we were building this house because it had to meet several requirements. I knew, because of my own decorating style that I wanted a yellow-neutral over a brown-neutral because I lean toward a whimsical decor at times. And I learned from my previous house after one very long weekend that involved about 4 different paint colors, several tears, & almost as many trips to Lowes, that I am a pale-yellow-neutral kind of girl. I want to be free to use a variety of patterns and colors against my neutral paint and thru the years, I’ve found that a yellow-neutral lets me do that.Having decided on a path of yellow, there were still so many out there to choose from, so I bought several samples & had the painters paint a sample of each in every area that this was going to be used so that I could see it in the correct light. And there were several areas that I was going to use this. In fact, this paint color is in about 60% of my house, including the family room, kitchen, & breakfast areas, plus hallways, most of the basement & 2 of my girls’ bedrooms. So you see why it was a huge decision, but in the end, Morning Sun stood up to the challenge, & I have never second-guessed my decision. Here are a few pics of Morning Sun in the family room…To see a few more spaces where I used Morning Sun, click on these links:Abby’s RoomLola’s RoomFoyerKitchenBasementDon’t forget to stop back by Thursday for the Paint Color Party & link up some of your faves!

What brand of paint is Morning Sun?
I'm looking for a nice neutral to paint a hot pink room we inherited in our new house. It may someday be a baby's room . . .

It is lovely! A nice neutral and I love the way it changes colors from area to area/room to room. I always do a good solid neutral in my homes too..and then punch up a bit of color here and there. Hugs-Diana

That is a great color. We used the same color or close to it in our first house, just a different brand of paint. It was called Star Lily. It matched with EVERYTHING. Cool colors, warm colors, black, brown, pink, green, any pattern or texture. I loved it. It was my signature color, until we moved to our current home….which needed something more tan. (Don't ask. I swear that is what the house told me.) Yay for yellow neutrals!

Such a soft color, I think it really works well. Some yellows seem over-stimulating, they claim the color itself can make you anxious. But Morning Sun seems more like a cream and looks perfection in your living room!

I am so glad I found your blog, I am getting ready to paint my kitchen and you have helped me decide that it's ok and better for me to stay with a nice neutral color. I almost got paint yesterday but thought I should sleep on it and I am glad I did. I just wanted to ask what type of paint to you use, is it satin or a gloss finish?
Nice to see another TN girl blogging!
