The Color of Fun
I think I’ve found the color of fun, and its name is Festival Green. Here’s the story of how we met:I’ve got a husband who loves a new tech gadget as much as I love a new furniture makeover candidate. And when he got it in his head that he wanted to get a new TV during the after-Christmas sales, he knew the best way to get me to agree was to tell me he’d need me to find just the right furniture find to go with it. Of course it was a deal I couldn’t refuse, & within a couple days, I had found this beauty…
And then, sandwiched somewhere between Outrageous Green & Envy, there was Festival Green…
And when these two met, fun was born…
I am loving this piece for so many reasons, but mainly because it’s just perfect for our Rec Room in the basement. This dresser-turned-console will hold every DVD & Wii Game we own. And since this room is also where we have the infamous air hockey table (it’s a long story) & all our video & board games, the theme of this room is Fun. I think Festival Green fits right in. Plus, it’s going to be a perfect fit for the plans I have for this room.
I’ll admit, this is the type of color that can scare you to death when you first open the can, but in the right space, it can be fabulous. I did do a thin coat of glaze, which toned it down just a tad. I used the same products & techniques as Sausha did in this tutorial. Super easy! I kept the original hardware, too & just gave them a light coat of bronze spray paint to darken the brass a little. (Here’s the affiliate link to the one I like.)
And speaking of great colors, I want to give you a heads-up on what I hope will be a really great event coming up here at Life of Bliss in just a few days!I’m hosting a Paint Color Party & you’re all invited! The number one question I get asked on this blog is about paint colors, & if you blog about your home & projects, you probably get the same questions. So, as a help to us all, I’m having a link party here next week where we can all link up posts about favorite paint colors we’ve used on walls or furniture makeovers. So, start thinking about what you’d like to share & come back next week as I’ll post a few of my favorite paint colors as we lead up to the party.If you’d like to advertise the party for me on your blog, use the button on my sidebar, then bring your favorite colors & come back for the fun!

I love the green, it's amazing how paint can transform and bring a piece of furniture back to life. I recently did a similar makeover in my basement. I love how mine turned out but I played it safe and painted it black. http://housetoyourhome.files.wordpress.com/2010/03/after-console.jpg

I really really really want that dresser. I keep finding stuff that is similar, but just lacks a little something. And the drawers never open very well. Maybe they just need some festival green paint…

July 15, 2011 @ 6:17 pm
I found this post when we were living abroad and decided that when I got home I was taking my mom's ugly old dresser (which she had previously offered me, but I declined) and transform it. I finally got started. I have a dresser and matching nightstands and I am painting them a grayish blue. I still need another coat on the drawers. Before I move on to glaze I wanted to find out if you used the exact recipe as the tutorial you linked to. Did you use the walnut stain mixed with the glaze? How much do you mix together for a piece this size? I'm a newbie but I really want my project to turn out right. Thanks for inspiring me.
Julie
July 16, 2011 @ 12:22 am
@Lindy
Hi, Lindy! Yes, I did use the exact "recipe" & as I recall, this piece only took about 8 oz of glaze mixed with maybe a tablespoon of stain. It does depend on how heavy you want it glazed, but it's simple to mix more if needed. Feel free to email me if you have other questions. Good luck with your pieces!

I just found this project via pinterest. I have been searching for a dresser to do this very project and have a question: how did you hide your cords from the TV and other devices? We want to mount our TV on the wall as well but don't want all the cords and stuff to show.
thanks for your help!
