Front Door Chalkboard
A couple of weeks ago, I got it in my head that I wanted a little chalkboard just above my doorbell at my front door. I had the project pictured in my head & began the search for just the right metal sign that I could transform. I saw all kinds of these signs in several stores, but when I found this one at Marshall’s, I loved the shape & I knew it was the one. Cute, huh? Well that didn’t even matter this time. It only took about 10 minutes to spray a few coats of chalkboard spray paint & it became my latest creation. I also added a piece of wire, twisted on the ends, to hang it. This project was SUPER easy! And it’s going to be so fun to use! It will be great for writing our house number, messages for party guests, or holiday greetings. Here it is in action!(There’s a peek at the rest of the wicker seating I got from my mom & dad. If you missed that project, click here.)

Hi Julie!
I found you via Trendy Treehouse, and I'm now following your lovely blog.
I love this sign. what a great idea to use Blackboard paint. This would be handy for me to let visitors know to go round to the back garden, when we're out during the summer.

Great idea! The original sign is pretty cute; I would have had a hard time painting over it! And I didn't realize you could get chalkboard paint as a spray. I'm going to be on the lookout!! Thanks for sharing!

That's a good idea! I know there have been many BBQ's where I've had to stick a note on the front door telling guests to come around the back {because, hello, it's a BBQ and we're all outside and no one can hear the doorbell}.

Have you seen these signs anywhere else lately?
I love the "pre-painted" "home sweet home" sign and it would fit my decor. you mentioned Marshalls. Was that recent?
thanks

What a great idea, I have just "discovered" my love of chalk boards and the messages you can leave for your loved ones on them. I also just discovered Chalk Ink, in our part of the Country, California, I found it at Michael's, it is great! No dust, and the no more squeaky chalk sounds …., but the best part is that the letters are crisp and clear. You have given me yet another thing to do on my front deck ,Thank you, Curtis and Sherrie

Hi Julie-
What a clever modern way to update a piece that was dated. I have seen other chalkboard projects, but this is a first – so clever. You can write a note to delivery people, guests, and holiday greetings. It is a brilliant idea.
