Secrets Akumal Riviera Maya Resort Review
It’s been a wonderful start to February since we kicked it off in the gorgeous Secrets Akumal resort in Mexico. An all-inclusive beach paradise would be a great start to any month for sure! Several of you followed along with our trip as I shared it on Instagram, but I like to give more details and info on trips here on the blog as well! I’ll start by saying this post is not sponsored although it should have been because if you’re like me, an honest opinion from a friend is the best recommendation for travel or anything else for that matter, so here we go!
Dave was actually the one who found this place first just by searching for an all-inclusive resort with great reviews. We didn’t know anyone at the time who had been here, we just liked what we read and went for it. Being a Hyatt property, we had confidence that it would be a quality place. Find the link to book HERE. We flew into Cancun, which was a fairly easy flight from Knoxville to Atlanta and then Cancun. We then took a shuttle to the resort, which was a little over an hour out of Cancun.
We arrived to a gorgeous property, and were welcomed into the beautiful lobby right away with cool eucalyptus cloths and smiling faces. And I will start off by saying that every single person on staff was extremely friendly and helpful. It was exceptional customer service from the moment you arrive until you leave!
Our room was not quite ready when we got there, but we were brought to the preferred club reception area where there was a light lunch bar and drinks. We had chosen a preferred club room simply because that was what was available for the beach view we wanted. I have heard from other reviews that other rooms are great too, and there are not a lot of extra perks with preferred club. When we got to the room, it was fabulous!
Beautiful furnishings, very spacious, plenty of light and mirrors, and a beautiful balcony with a view of the ocean across the pool and resort.
The amenities in the room are above expectation with a fridge stocked with soft drinks, juices, and plenty of waters. And there is a Nespresso machine with coffee, creamer, sweeteners, etc. There are also snacks and everything is replenished every day so you are never without. Room service is also available 24 hours but we never used it because there was food available everywhere you turned basically!
If you’d like to see a video of the room, I’ll save it in my highlights on Insta a little later!
The property itself is also just gorgeous, with a beautiful beach with plenty of seating to 3 large pools.
Something everyone wants to know about is the food! And it was simply amazing. This was our first time visiting an all-inclusive resort and we weren’t sure what we would think of it. For one, we are not alcohol drinkers, so we knew we would not be interested in the 24/7 alcohol availability. However, we did like the option of getting whatever non-alcoholic drinks we could want at any time of the day. The juices and teas and smoothies were fresh and delicious!
There is also a coffee shop which was actually one of my favorite spots–and it’s available 24 hours as well!
As for restaurants, it’s hard to know where to begin! There are several options available, and we loved every one that we tried! The Italian was probably our favorite because of the lasagna.
The Oceana Seafood restaurant is also delicious and we loved the views of the pool and beach in the evening.
The Mexican and Hibachi restaurants were also fun and delicious. One note: make a reservation for the hibachi table– so fun!
Something else to take note of… each night we were there, there were also special dinner events outside around the pool areas that you could choose! They were buffet style and also included entertainment, shopping, crafts, etc! So fun. You can choose to eat, or just enjoy the entertainment.
On our last day, we decided to try out the spa and it was beautiful! So relaxing and peaceful. I loved the atmosphere so much.
We definitely enjoyed this trip to the fullest! We went for 4 nights and it was perfect for us. If we had stayed longer, we would have planned an excursion day, but decided to just enjoy the resort this time. Another note, this resort is a turtle sanctuary and most times of the year, you can choose to take a boat out to snorkel with turtles. However, February and September are not available as the turtles are in nesting season and they do not take boats out. You can do snorkeling close to the shore and also paddle boarding and kayaks, all included in the resort!
I’m pretty sure you would love a visit here as much as we did. We would definitely visit again… between the ice cream cart on the beach, guacamole class by the pool, and chocolate covered strawberries, it is a definite 5 stars from me…
But even above all this–what I recommend the most is 100% quality time together with your spouse no matter if you can spring for an all inclusive resort or a picnic in your own backyard… DO IT! It will be the best investment you can make for your marriage.
