DIY Angel Wings
According to my favorite Christmas movie, “It’s a Wonderful Life,” every time a bell rings, an angel gets his wings.
Well, I don’t know if that’s true, but I thought my mantel could really use some this year, so I began a search for inspiration.
And when I saw this on Pinterest, I was completely inspired. Click here for the original post which is written in Polish.
This creative blogger used paper plates to create a gorgeous set of wings for her mantel, so I tried my hand at my own version. Hers are much more elaborate than mine, but I’m pretty happy with how they turned out.

It actually only took around 14 plates for the set of wings, so the cost is next to nothing, which is always a bonus.
I didn’t use exact science for cutting the plates, just sort-of cut them in pieces slightly less than half for the top sections of the wings…
And then a few odd-shaped pieces for the bottom sections of the wings…
Then, I positioned all the pieces on a table to get a good mock-up and did the wings in a mirror image of each other.
Then came the hot glue.
I just held the pieces in place as I glued them together.
And then, to get a fluffy effect, I took them outside and sprayed on a little spray adhesive and covered them with “snow flakes”. (You can find these supplies online here and here!)
For a mounting block, I found a piece of scrap 2×4 and painted and weathered it a little.
Then, I just glued on the wings and added a piece of jute for hanging.
That was it! So if you know an angel in need of some wings, you can whip some up for just a couple dollars. Or, just ring a bell– I hear that works, too.

This looks completely lovely! I love the snowflake effect on these wings, too. I would have never guessed that you made these out of paper plates!

Where did you find the snowflakes, I've been googling and I can only find it online:( I don't want to wait that long to make these beautiful wings. Thanks for the inspiration!

I got those from Hobby Lobby, but I've seen them at the other major craft stores as well. Good luck!
