Dogwood Cottage Update and Courtyard Blooms!
We’ve been making steady progress at the cottage the past couple weeks, finishing our prep work for the plumber and electrician to get in very soon. This past Saturday, seven of us were at the house at various times and our main goal has been to get the two new bathrooms framed up and cement boards laid down ready for tile.
Abby and Miriam and I took a trip that morning to do a little tile shopping (we are still undecided on that!). We had left the guys at the house to get an early start on the bathroom walls.
They were making good progress until a crazy random accident occurred and unfortunately, a piece of plaster from the ceiling broke loose and fell, hitting Grant on the top of the head. Thankfully, it was not more serious than it was, but he did have to get 5 stitches and take it easy for a couple days. I am so sad that Grant had this happen, and we are trying hard to keep everyone safe during this process! Of course, Beau had to commemorate the spot on the floor where the tragedy occurred. I guess it will make an interesting story for the next people who decide to renovate this house down the road!
We finished getting the walls up and the cement board down. Just a few more details to work out before the plumber comes next week.
Outside, things are looking amazing and that has nothing to do with us! The dogwood trees that gave this cottage its name are in full bloom and reaching their peak this week.
Can you even believe this pink color?!
And the courtyard is really starting to come alive. Not only are the white dogwoods in the back in full bloom, the peony bushes seem to be growing by the minute.
The girls and I did a clean up of all the beds, put down new mulch, and straightened up the edging to get it Spring-ready. I can’t wait to get to the point where we can do some pressure washing and get the exterior painted and get a gate for the back wall.
Little by little we are getting there! Pretty soon, we will get to the fun design details. It’s great to have you joining along on our progress. If you want to follow along more closely, follow me on Instagram where I’m sharing more stories and videos!

Looking good! We recently helped our daughter and sil remodeling their house and my husband ended up with stitches when a door hit his head. It knocked some sense into him to be more careful! 🙂
