The Dogwood Cottage Demo Days
So things are getting a little ugly over at the Dogwood Cottage lately and I have to admit, it’s not my favorite part! It’s my nature to crave improvements, and right now, things are just getting worse! Demo is all new to me because you will remember– I’ve always worked with new builds since Dave and I have been married, so tearing things down is a new experience. But our vision is alive and well and we are making progress so it’s all good. Here’s where we are right now: we’ve spent the past couple weekends working as a family getting down the wall paper, pulling up carpets, and then tearing down some walls!
This is turning out to be a great learning experience for all of us– especially the kids! Dave and I both had the experience to help our parents with DIY projects growing up in our separate homes, and I’m kinda thrilled that our kids are getting some of these experiences too.
Lily and Lola’s favorite part so far has been tearing out walls, and they’ve done a great job of it!
As you can see, this bathroom wall is almost fully out and ready to be moved so we can expand the one bathroom into two new ones!
Our other major demo area is the kitchen where you can already see some before and after…
And remember the powder room? It had to go, too so we could make better use of this space for the kitchen!
We are definitely having fun with this, making it a party with pizza lunches, Sonic breaks and plenty of laughs.
We’ve even made some unexpected discoveries in the walls!
We are definitely making a mess around here with one dumpster full and at least another one to go…
But we’re making memories on this process as well. I’m already wondering which part is going to be the best– the journey or the destination? I’m pretty sure it’s both.
Don’t forget I’m sharing real-time updates and video tours on my Instagram and I’m love for you to follow me there if you want to see more!

I love, love the court yard also. The windows are beautiful, the floors are going be gorgeous when refinished. I can’t wait to follow along with your hard work. You know you talked about the hydrangea being cut back, so sad and you may not have many blossom on them but they do have pretty foliage and eventually you will have lots of blossom. I can see the beauty in this house.♥️

Thanks so much! The courtyard is one of my favorite parts too! We cannot wait to see what all is going to bloom back there in these coming weeks!
