Dave and Brittany’s Rancher Updates

It’s unofficially summer now, which means tons of fun in the sun, but also some work around the house on some of those projects on our lists, right?? Some of you may be considering some big changes like whether to paint your brick or go with similar options.  I know a lot of you are thinking about this because I still get lots of emails and questions about the German Smear post I did almost 2 years ago about when my brother did this technique on their house!  So many of you have been inspired by Dave and Brittany’s Rancher Reno I’ve shared over the past few years, and I am way overdue on an update on some of the work they’ve done!

After several more updates, here’s how it looks today!…

The transformation they’ve done is amazing from the new roof, to the porch addition, to the shutters and sidewalk.

Dave built the porch and shutters himself, painting the trim in Sherwin William’s Rock Bottom.  He made the shutters in a simple design from these cedar pickets!  Such a great deal and easy to make.

And the walkway was another great DIY that makes a huge impact.  Dave used this concrete walk maker along with basic concrete mix like this.  For a walkway this size, he recommends renting a concrete mixer as it takes about one 60-lb bag on mix per mold.  Another tool you’ll need is a good pointing trowel like this for getting the cement into the corners of the mold!

As fabulous as the exterior of their house is looking these days, the best little project they’ve been working on just recently turned one and she’s the one that has stolen all of our attention!  We can’t get enough of her!
