Making an Entrance
I’m not sure if I’ve ever even mentioned it here, but I’m slightly crazy for curb appeal. (Fellow fans, follow my Pinterest board here.) Good doors always get my attention, container flowers are fabulous, and a stone path can melt my heart.
In fact, one of the things I loved most about my front yard when we finished our house was the stone path. BUT, my husband didn’t share my affection for it because it wasn’t exactly easy to maintain, as grass always wanted to overtake the stones. Plus he claimed that it forced our guests to have to hopscotch to the door. I call that “fun”, but whatever!
So, as sad as I was to see it go, I gave in, and we had it taken out last fall.
For a few days, I was pretty worried, and may have shed a tear or two.
The new path we chose is similar, but the stones are closer together with crushed rock in between, making it a smoother path, yet it still has character like theoriginal. And now that I’ve lived with our new path for a few months, I say– with all my heart, I love it! And my husband was right. Yes, Honey, I stated it right here: you were right!
So, friends and family can now waltz, skip or jump to the door if they wish, but no hopscotch required.
I’ve also been working on container plants already. And since there has been a recent revival of this container getting pinned a lot on Pinterest, I thought I’d share this new option as well. Each of these plants is easy to maintain and will be full and flourishing in no time. As for the urns, I have had them for a few years now, and they are no longer available, but there is asimilar style and sizeavailable here if you are shopping for some!
A new quote for the entryway? Chalk it up to my other obsession. And the easiest ever DIY green wreaths can be found here.
And a true love for curb appeal shouldn’t just be checked at the door. I like to carry it on in with me when I step inside. Another recent addition that I haven’t told you about yet is my black and white chevron cowhide rug, which I found on clearance at my beloved Marshall’s for a fraction of the retail price.
Yes, I’m loving it. And so does Scout, who looks so cute on it, but also scares me to death when he hesitates there too long.

It looks great. I like it better than the original. Your foyer is beautiful. That sounds weird but I love a grand entrance!

Beautiful! Although the new path is lovely, I understand your attachment to the old stone path. It's funny the things that are significant to women vs. men. Take wood, for instance. Every woman (that I know), wants to paint it, and every man (that I know) thinks painting wood is a crime. 🙂 Love that gallery wall…the gold frames and the play on the entryway with the doors.
