Forever 30-Something
But, despite the fact that I’m obviously not fooling anyone into thinking I’m remotely close to 21 when I shop here, it doesn’t stop me from going in once in awhile. I mean, really- I can’t think of one other place in town where you can find a skinny cheetah belt for $2.50. It’s just not gonna happen. And whether you’re 21 or 81, you know that’s a good deal.
And I don’t know if it was “the new me” that’s emerged since all my kids are now in school, or the questioning looks I received as I browsed the metallic leggings rack, but as I shopped yesterday, I thought to myself, “You could totally wear these clothes if you wanted to.” Twenty-one schmenty-one. If the girl with the crazy-high hair over there could wear it, so could I.
So I picked out a few choice outfits and thought I’d share them with you all.
First was the polka dot mini dress with black leggings. Not bad, but there was just something about it that screamed, “I’m on my way to try out for ‘Swan Lake’ and I hope they don’t tell me I’m too old again this year.”
So, I moved on to what I’m calling the “Oh No You Di’un”. Because I know that’s what my sister is saying about now. This would actually be the perfect outfit for running to Walmart for some Easy Cheese. But, since I haven’t done that since around 1993, I had to pass.
So, I moved on to the next one, which I call “The Cat From Outerspace” because of the kitty dress and the aforementioned metallic leggings. This one was actually my favorite because I couldn’t stop thinking of how mortified my teenagers would be to see me wearing this. I may just have to get this one to pop in at the school cafeteria one day.
And through all my searching, I actually came across a couple pieces that would work just fine for a Forever 30-Something like me.
The black and white skirt withthe cute red belt wassomethingI think even Kate Spade would approve of. And it was only $17 and change. Gotta love that.
So, no, I’m not 21. In fact, I’m not even 31, but I could totally pull off a studded red pleather vest if I wanted to. Do I want to, you ask? No, thanks. I think I’ll pass.

the last two outfits were amazing on you! and the rest had me giggling- i could see the look on your face! ๐ chris is a DM for hot topic and they had a big sale… he asked me to look online and see if there was anything i wanted and he could get it for me. i looked…. i was too old, not trendy enough, and too fat for most of it! so i ordered a gray fedora. that, i will wear.

I think I did wear those first outfits in the 80's (and curled only my bangs) BUT the skirts are divine. Kate would be proud! ๐

Not sure if anyone else has ever noticed but on the bottom of the Forever 21 bags is the verse John 3:16. I never took the time to research if the name Forever 21 had a religious meaning behind it or if the owner just is religious and wanted to put that on there. I think Forever 30 would be proud to use you as a model; you looked gorgeous in the last 2 outfits!

I am 35 and love Forever 21…I must admit, I almost dropped $19.99 on a fab NKOTB sweatshirt the other day. What 21 year old can appreciate NKOTB like a 35 year old can?? ๐

This made me laugh out loud! Oh my gosh you are brave even putting that stuff on, I would not be able to haha! The metallic leggings? The BEST! hahaha! I work at a university & it's rare I see people dress like this… it surprises me they sell that stuff! Maybe you just gotta choose the right things to tone down the crazy stuff. I do totally love the beautiful skirts at the end though. I would buy them in a heartbeat! Did you? I'm 30 & do an occasional stop in forever 21 as well. Oh & I worked there for a summer too, back when I WAS 21 ๐

You look darling in ALL of them…okay maybe the 2nd one was a little cheesy…but cute anyway- Love the last two pictures. Did you tell those teenyboppers that you were paying their salary when they snootily rang up your purchases? lol xo Diana

Hilarious-loved it. And the last two outfits were fabulous. You have to weed through the 80s crap, but there ARE gems at Forever 21, says the 31 year old who still occasionally shops there (when I feel like digging). A 40 year old friend of mine shops there a lot and one time she went in and the teeny bopper worker said, "The more mature section is in the back." hahaha Jerk.

Your forever 21 in those outfits! Look at you looking so hot in those outfits (some cheezy yes, but you rocked them). I haven't been in there in like forever. Lol. I hear their clothes fall apart after one wash.
