Teen Girl’s Room & Closet Reading Nook {Updated!}
I can hardly believe it, but it’s been 5 whole years since I first posted about the girly reading nook converted from a closet that my friend did in her daughter’s room! It has since become a very popular post on the blog, and some of you have been wondering if she still has it or if she switched back to a closet, so here’s the scoop!
This is Lauren…
She was only 10 years old when her parents first changed her closet to the reading nook and here’s how it looked back then…
And now that Lauren is 15, she not only still prefers having her reading nook over a closet, she has updated the whole room and it looks better than ever!

Updated curtains and pillows, plus a change from pinks to gray, gold, black, and white, make this the perfect teen girl space! Lauren loves to read, which is what first inspired this nook, but she’s also super-creative and artistic, and her whole room shows it!
One of the many projects she and her mom have DIY-ed in this room is this beautiful “fortune teller” light fixture in the nook. They started with a plain paper lantern like this one, added a simple light kit like this one, and then, inspired by some projects they saw on Pinterest, they glued on a bunch of paper “fortune tellers” (remember these little games from junior high?) to give it a totally updated design. So cute!
The new curtains are white with sewn-on black ribbon stripes. The panels are hung on a tension rod, and can be pulled closed for an even more cozy space!
Since Lauren is also an artist, she’s always drawing something new, and her desk is a great space where she can display some of her work and awards!

She is soo talented and you can see more of her work by following her here on Instagram!
There’s also more of her creativity on display on a cute gallery wall…
And she made an adorable earring organizer from an IKEA frame with a decorative piece of metal cut to fit!
And remember the placemat pillows I made here? Lauren made her own version for her bed with placemats from Target. {Update: after many inquiries about her name sign, I have been able to find a source for similar ones HERE!}
And the big question everyone wants to know–where does she hang her clothes? They found a great solution in this wardrobe from IKEA. It’s perfect for storing her clothes and looks great with the rest of the room.
I love the look of her new room! And if you ask Lauren, she’ll be the first to recommend a reading nook if you’re thinking about making the switch! Don’t forget to check out the original post here for more details!

Love the look and creativity. Lauren, hope you are going to pursue art further and especially as a career because your work is totally awesome!! I also love the sign “She was looking for a hero and became one.” Have noted this already on paper in my own room! Thanks for sharing.

Where did you get the gold feathers?
Julie
October 3, 2016 @ 1:50 pm
Those feathers were a diy project Lauren & her parents did with special equipment that cuts thin plastic. They were inspired by some on Pinterest, I believe!

Julie

They can’t recall the actual color they used here, but I would check out Sherwin Williams’ Magnetic Gray and see what you think of it. It’s very close to this! Hope that helps!

I love, love, love this room…and so does my daughter. I just have a few questions.
1. My daughter’s name is also Lauren (although she’s a bit younger…she’s only 7). I was wondering where you got the cursive name.
2. How big is the bedroom? My daughter’s room is not very big and her closet is so small. I like the wardrobe idea but not sure I’d have enough room.

The cursive name was a custom piece her dad made, but they have similar ones on Etsy. I don’t have the measurements of the room.

I know this post is old but I’m desperate lol, my daughter came across this and we are redoing her room and all I need to know is if you did the grey color on the walls all the way around or the white all the way around?
Julie
