Our fathers sound very similar. My Dad was the most sincere, humble, honest, and kind man I have ever known. My father unexpectedly passed away after a wonderful day of working in the yard with my Mom. My Mom was given a beautiful gift of seeing him take three gentle breaths, close his eyes, and smile. I have no doubt precious Pop was smiling as he was greeted by our precious Lord. It's been six months for me, and I miss him so very much. His first birthday in heaven was on Easter. As hard as it is to go through life without him, I know we will only be separated once. And I know he is having the time of his life! Thank you for sharing your story. Our earthly fathers have given us a glimpse of our heavenly Father's love. God bless you and your family!

Yes, I can see that you get it! I'm so sorry for your loss, but so thankful that you, too, have the assurance that you'll see your dad again! God bless you, too, friend!

What a lovely post about your Dad. I have thought your thought, many times. How am I going to live without my Dad. He has been such a treasure in my life. Many times he will say when he leaves, "I don't know what I'd do without you, kid", and I say "I don't know what I'd do without you, Dad." I am an only child, Dad is 86 and in good health, but I know our time is growing short. Thanks for this post. It is somehow comforting to know there are others that feel for their Dad, the way I do. Bless your Dad's heart…

Thank you for sharing your heart..it isn't easy losing someone we love, but we know as Christians that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. My family surrounded our father in hopice, for his last month of life, only to sleep and eat in the waiting room, we made do so we could be right there for him, while someone would sleep on a cot beside his bed. This was a time for heart felt closeness with our small but loving family,we where in his room when he drew his last breath..your story has touch me this morning. We will see him one day,and that will be a joy!

This is a beautiful post – you had me in tears by the second paragraph, as your experience with your dad sounds so similar to watching my grandfather's body succumb to cancer and the nastiness that it is. Thank you for sharing your heart and your story – wishing you peace as this first whole year without your dad comes full circle. <3

Sending you a big hug! I hope this video by Joey Feek will help in some small way. Not sure if you know about her but she died a month ago from cancer and left her husband Rory and 2 yr old Down Syndrome Indiana. She did this video 2 years before she knew she had cancer. The words are so beautiful! In case the link does not work go to You Tube and search for "When I'm Gone" by Joey Feek.

This is such a sweet tribute to your Dad, Julie. Did you notice that your shadows make a heart around your Dad's grave in that birdseye view photo? 🙂

i love the way you write — you somehow are able to turn your thoughts into words that really touch the heart and make us feel what you're feeling. i appreciate how you point everyone who reads straight to the heavenly father! i am blessed by the testimony of your precious father — my dad is 82 and was also a pastor. 🙂
