Cherry Pie in a Mason Jar!
We’re quickly approaching Summer: the season of picnics, parties, and outdoor fun. Oh, and lots of great food! I personally love food that tastes good and looks cute, and these cherry pies in a jar totally qualify.
I’ve seen different versions of this on Pinterest, and decided I had to try a version of my own, so here goes! Here’s all you need for 4 servings :
-One 21 oz can of cherry pie filling (obviously you could choose another kind if you prefer)
-One refrigerated pie crust
-Four half-pint size mason jars
-A small star cookie cutter (If you don’t have one, check the kids’play dough stash. That’s where I found this one!)
-Cooking spray
-Sugar for sprinkling
This is seriously as easy as…pie! Just divide the pie crust dough into 4 sections, leaving enough dough to cut 4 small stars. Then, press the dough into the sides of the jars about 3/4 of the way up. Don’t worry aboutimperfections, that just adds charm!
Then, just divide the filling equally into the jars. Don’t top them with the stars just yet. Hold on to those for later.
Place the jars on a cookie sheet and bake in a preheated oven at 325º for approximately 25 minutes.
Then, remove the cookie sheet from the oven, spray the dough stars with a little shot of cooking spray, place them on top of the pies, and sprinkle them with a little sugar. Return them to the oven for another 10 minutes or until the stars are slightly browned.
And that’s it! Let them cool, then package them up with a little spoon and tag and they make a great gift! I found these cute wooden spoons at Hobby Lobby, but you can buy similar ones by clicking here. And I’ll be sharing the printable tags tomorrow, along with some Memorial Day picnic ideas, so stay tuned!
Whowouldn’t love a little pie in a jar? Yay, Summer!
