My Unforgettable Experience at Unclaimed Baggage: Scottsboro, Alabama
If you ask me what the jewel of Scottsboro, Alabama is, I’m going to say my Mamaw because that’s what she is to me and that’s where she happens to live these days. (She’s my grandmother, for those of you who don’t speak Southern.)
But, since most people in Scottsboro don’t know my Mamaw, they’re going to say that Unclaimed Baggage is what puts their town on the map.
Less than an hour’s drive or so from Chattanooga and Huntsville, Scottsboro holds some hidden treasures, and you’re going to want to be the one to find them.
I had heard of this place for years from family and other people who had visited, but when my sister and I were invited to attend a special Blogger’s Getaway Day at Unclaimed Baggage, we made it a sisters’ road trip.
So, where does all of this come from?
This huge store is the landing place for the 1/2 of 1% of lost domestic airline luggage that never makes its way back to its owner. That’s a pretty good record for the airlines considering that 99.5% of lost luggage gets returned, but that .5% that’s unclaimed, ends up here. Read more about the process here on the Unclaimed Baggage site.
During our visit, we even got to see the Unpacking the Bag Experience, where they demonstrated the process of how they go through each bag! Super-fun.
And then there was the actual shopping.
Awesome deals on cameras…
…laptops…
…formal dresses and shoes…
…men’s wear…
And, of course, tons of women’s clothing, shoes, and accessories.
I spotted my deal of the day within the first few minutes…
I got this Kate Spade Maraschino colored Evangelia Cardigan Sweater with jeweled buttons for only $25.99.
I’m thinking it was a good deal since it retailed for $288. What do you think? This formerly unclaimed item is now happily claimed.
And then there was the adorable brown coat I bought for only $10.99. It was like an Unclaimed Baggage dream-come-true when I put my arm in the sleeve and out popped a diamond bracelet! Okay- it was stretchy rhinestone one with a few stones missing, but still, a very fun surprise. Obviously, it had gotten caught in the sleeve when its former owner took it off. But, it got a new life when I put it on. (Sweet, huh?)
I came home with 2 bags full of treasures and can’t wait to go back someday.
Here’s my son and I in a few of my finds…
I found that plaid sport coat for him for only $10! And of course, I’m wearing my Kate Spade sweater and “diamond” bracelet.
I’d like to extend a huge thanks to the staff at Unclaimed Baggage for the big dose of southern hospitality they showed all the bloggers that day. From the delicious meals in Cups Cafe inside the store, to the tour and deals, it was an unforgettable experience at Unclaimed Baggage!

I got a Michael Kors purse for just under $100. From what I could tell, it should have retailed for about $328. Sweet!
