Lincoln Love
I love Lincoln. He was not only a great president, but a great American. He put his strong convictions into action in the face of adversity, allowing his influence on this country to still reach us today.
In light of the excitement of the election this week, I thought I’d share a little something Lincoln had to say…
I hope you’ll exercise your right as an American to get out and have a say in this election.
I love that Lincoln knew what he believed, and had the ability to express his practical sense so poignantly. Every American should take the time to read his words of wisdom about life, faith, and politics. Click here for a great collection of Lincoln quotes.
What do you love about Lincoln?

Lincoln is not the man the history books make him to be. Lincoln saw the introduction of total war on the American continent — indiscriminate mass slaughter and destruction without regard to age, gender, or combat status of the victims — and oversaw the systematic shelling and burning of entire cities for strategic and tactical purposes. For the same purposes, Lincoln declared, rather late in the war, that black slaves were now free in the South — where he had no effective jurisdiction — while declaring at the same time, somewhat more quietly but for the record nonetheless, that if maintaining slavery could have won his war for him, he'd have done that, instead.
"Timid men prefer the calm of despotism to the tempestuous sea of liberty"
~Thomas Jefferson
Just my two cents!

I was in my Library, painting, when I realized I may have been a bit strident in my response. I guess what I am trying to say is that Lincoln was human.
The Thomas Jefferson quote moves me to tears every time I see it…thought I'd share!

Thanks for sharing your viewpoint. I agree with your first comment in that we would probably all be surprised at discrepancies in how certain events in history have been portrayed to us and how they actually occurred. And I'm absolutely certain Lincoln was not perfect in every regard. But, I do love the ideals we have come to know as being "Lincoln" and the many words of wisdom that we attribute to him. 🙂

I love the fact that he was such a humble, plain man with deep convictions. When they were building the barn on the homestead I grew up on they were working on the stone wall on the back of the barn. A horseman came through and told them that Lincoln had been shot. They left the stone work and took off on the small side roads to spread the word while the horseman continued on the main dirt road. Imagine communication back then- xo Diana

Julie, I TOO love Lincoln. I've read MANY books about him and must say I don't agree w/Divine Theatre's first remarks and find it interesting she decided her point was, 'Lincoln was human'??? weird. Thomas Jefferson moves me to tears too, from EMBARRASSMENT. Thanks for the link to the Lincoln quotes. Your blog is great by the way. Just my 'take' of this from a 56 yr. old born & raised in the deep South w/a Black Nanny I adored who was well paid and considered a member of our family.
Warm Regards
