Family Room Makeover {Sort-of} & A Linky
This week I’m working on a major family room makeover. Ok, maybe not a major one, but it is a makeover. I’m changing everything up in one of the easiest ways possible: I’m switching out our sofa throw pillows. I, for one, have always loved the fact that you can change the entire personality of a sofa & even a room, just by changing out the pillows. This week I’ll be sharing my different designs with you, starting with these freezer paper stenciled ones…
If you missed the tutorial I posted last year with the details of how to make a freezer paper stencil, click here. For my new pillows, I started with some inspiration fabric I found at a local fabric store. {It’s called Dahlia by Thomas Paul & the color is Slate. Here’s one online source I found that sells it.}I planned to make a couple pillows out of this fabric, & I wanted some others to coordinate. So, I decided to make a freezer paper stencil by tracing the actual design of my inspiration fabric. So, I measured out the freezer paper to the size of my pillow tops, traced, & cut out the stencils. Then, I just ironed them onto some unbleached muslin & painted them in a coordinating blue craft paint. After the paint was dry, I just sewed up the pillow covers.I love to use down inserts for my throw pillows because of their look and feel. Here’s a helpful tip for you: rather than spend top dollar at fabric stores for down inserts, shop around for good deals on pre-made throw pillows at discount stores & use the inserts from those. I found these great down pillows in the exact size I wanted at Ross for only $8.99 each. I just zipped off the covers & had two great down inserts.I am loving how my new pillows look on my love seat!Aren’t they way better than my old ones? And they go great with the pillows made from the Thomas Paul fabric.I’ve still got a few more pillows to make for the big makeover, so stay tuned & I’ll share them with you this week.I’m also sharing this project with some of these sites. And if you’ve done a post about throw pillows you’d like to share, link it up here for the rest of us to see! I’ll be leaving this link party open all week, so show us what you’ve got.

Those pillows look so much better than before. What a great idea to trace the design for other pillows to match.
