What’s Really in a Number?
If you’ve been reading this blog for awhile, you know who Denise is. We’ve been best friends for-{seriously}-ever. And we have the pictures to prove it.
Anyway, today’s a big birthday for her. She’s now “the new 30”. I was there when she turned 6. And 12. And 24.But what’s really in a number? Proof. That friendships can stand the test of time, even if you don’t see someone for a while.Memories. The kind that can you can store away for safe keeping and get out again on days when you need to laugh. Understanding. Being able to say something that may make no sense at all, and knowing they know exactly what you mean.X-ray Vision. You can look at each other & still see the person they feel like they are inside.Support. Even when you choose not to take their decorating advice on the guest bathroom.andConfidence. That they’ll answer the phone when you call. Whether it’s been 5 years or 5 minutes since you talked to them last. These things only come with the passing of time. And through the years, Denise has been a good friend to me & a lot of other people. That’s why we couldn’t let this day go by without a celebration, so several of us schemed together & planned a surprise party. She knew I was planning to have my annual costume party, but what she didn’t know was that it was really her birthday party. And while she planned to dress as a cowgirl with her cowboy, the rest of us dressed as a bunch of senior citizens in a retirement home. It was great. We had a sign to welcome her…A birthday cake…Party favors made with this recipe…And the shocked expression we were all hoping for…The party guests were ridiculous. And totally awesome… And we’ll still be laughing about it all for a very long time.Happy Birthday, Denise!(You knew this would show up on here sometime.)It feels like this picture was just taken yesterday. So little, yet so much, has changed.Come to think of it, my hair looks surprisingly similar to this now.Yours looks way better.Just sayin’.BFF’s.
