A Seamstress, In the Library, With a Telescope
If you’ve noticed a trend in my posts lately pertaining to window treatments, it’s because I’ve been kinda on a roll & I just have to go with it when the mood strikes or it may end up being another year before I get these windows covered! After I saw how much I loved my breakfast room panels, and conquered the dreaded 5 panels I recently did in the living room, the library window looked like a breeze, so I made it my next project. The hardest part about this one was choosing the fabric. I actually do have a vision for the room, despite the fact that there are still stacks of boxes of books in one corner. Those are gonna have to go soon or I might just make them into some kind of furniture. Right now, the only furniture in there is the desk I showed you here, our navy leather recliner we’ve had for years (& still love), a small table my mom didn’t want any more, and my little pedestal table I showed you here. Here’s an overview of the room with the currently-naked window. The wall color is a Sherwin-Williams color match to Benjamin Moore’s Liberty Park. The book shelves are coming—still in the planning stages at this point, but they will be a dark stain, spanning the length of the far wall.My vision for the room is mainly “travel”, but keeping with a rich-wood-library type of feel. I know. It’s got a long way to go. And it could still go a hundred different directions from there. Here are a few of the accessories I’ve collected so far:A metallic silver trunk:A black leather desk-top telescope…And an old-world globe:After shopping around for months for fabric for the drapes, I narrowed it down to 2 swatches. And they’re totally opposite of one another. So, I thought it’d be fun to show you both of them & see which you like best.

I LOVE the plaid but that's just me. I think plaid "never" goes out of style if you keep things around for a while…

My instict says go with the blue and white because it is an attention grabber! However, for the old world traveled in look, def go with the plaid! Very traditional and classic. Can't wait to see the finished room!

The blue and white has my vote. It's just less predictable, and would look sooooo good paired with the green walls if you get some globes in there.

I love the blue and white. It looks great with the wall color and the over all feel would still be true to the travel theme! It would almost give it a nautical slant.

I vote the blue and the white. That much plaid could feel really heavy and really dated really fast. I think the blue and white says classic, but updated.

I like the blue and white, but I am sure the plaid would look nice too – just a much different feel for the room.

i think it depends on what kind of mood you want to present while in the room. do you want to be relaxed while reading a good book or do you want to be cheery and have a cup of tea with a magazine? for me, i'd do the cup of tea and a gossip mag. đŸ™‚

I really like the blue and white – it makes it feel so fresh and still eclectic (which is right up my alley!) But like everyone else has said, the plaid is beautiful too, and would look gorgeous in there!

Love the 2nd one! Very artsy, and fun. I think it would go along with your travel theme very well since traveling is all about seeing new and different places and that fabric is indeed unique (at least from what I can tell with the swatch) ;-)When you're finished, will you come sew some curtains for my sunroom? ha!

The plaid gives the room that Old World library look, nice and cozy for reading…
while the blue and white brightens it up, and gives me that unexpected "WoW" factor.
Can't wait to see which one you picked, love the roon btw, it's beautiful!

Well, my favorite is definitely the indigo and ivory. The plaid definitely reads, "library", but it also is a little more masculine and I'm picturing large paintings of hunting dogs, old eclectic cigar boxes, houndstooth, and an English riding saddle propped in the corner! (just my vision when I picture the long plaid panels in a library) Oh, and maybe some worn maps too.
The indigo makes me think of a more whimsical library. It feels more "fresh" and I'd bet anything this is the fabric you chose! I also love the color combination with the green walls.
Can't wait to see the pictures Julie, whichever fabric you chose, it's going to be great!

sorry to sound like a broken record but blue and white đŸ™‚ i LOVE the travel theme, but definitely keep it fun and fresh with a pop of color! Could you post a further away shot of the pattern? its kind of hard to tell what it is exactly… but i will still probably prefer it.

I love the blue and white because it does "pop" not to mention it seems much more cheery. The plaid is beautiful however it gets lost with the color of the paint (which I love!) Can't wait to read what you ordered.

I was going to say go with the plaid because that seems to go more with the accessories but then I saw the blue/ivory one. Love it!
